The MOT for Class IV Vehicles

IN’ n ‘OUT, The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency recognises autocentres as legitimate testing facilities due to their high standards and trained staff (DVSA). You can save time and money by combining your MOT with your Interim or Full Service. If you want to keep your car on the road and serve its intended purpose, you need to have it pass an MOT, and the DVSA has some very specific requirements for that.

The Vehicle Safety Check evaluates the following: Headlights and Turn Signals; Steering (including Suspension); Brakes; Tires and Wheels; Safety Restraints; General Components; Body and Structure; Fuel and Emissions; and the Driver’s Field of Vision.

What is an MOT

You must undergo an MOT inspection yearly if your car is three years old. The annual safety check conducted by the UK’s Ministry of Transport is designed to ensure that all cars on public roads in the country meet the government’s safety and exhaust emissions requirements.

Tests are performed by a qualified technician and can be scheduled up to one month before the expiration date of a valid MOT certificate, provided the valid certificate is presented at the time of service. If your vehicle passes the MOT test, you will get a new certificate starting when your current one expires.

How Long Does an MOT Take?

Typically, an MOT will take between 45 and 60 minutes. Numerous garages provide an “MOT while you wait for” service, with comfortable waiting areas and free coffee. Time will increase dramatically if your vehicle breaks down and requires more repairs. The test centre can estimate how long the repairs will take based on their complexity.

MOT grace period

When it comes to MOTs, there is no such thing as a grace period. If your vehicle’s MOT has expired, you are no longer permitted to drive it on public roads. The law may be broken if you do this. A valid MOT certificate is required before you may register a car for tax purposes.

Can I drive without an MOT?

No. Any vehicle being driven without a current MOT certificate is illegal. However, you can drive your car to its scheduled MOT inspection if you schedule the inspection in advance. You must declare your vehicle SORN if you are the owner and do not intend to use it.
